Mercedes-Benz to bring Apple's CarPlay to some older models

Mercedes-Benz was one of the launch partners for Apple’s CarPlay, having demoed the first vehicle that uses in-dash system powered by Apple’s tech. While that’s great, existing Mercedes owners may be a bit pissed for their inability to join the ride. After all, they paid a fortune for the car and now it can’t “properly” connect to their iPhone.

According to a 9to5mac, the German auto-maker is looking into “an after-market solution for previous cars” to install CarPlay by the end of year. No other details were provided and I guess we’ll have to wait and see what these guys can do. We’re sure they’ll dedicate enough resources to keep their customers happy, and we’re also confident that other car makers will be looking at what Mercedes is doing so they too could add some Apple touch to their existing vehicles.

For those of you who missed the news, Apple’s software is coming to a vehicle near you. Initial CarPlay partners include Ferrari, Volvo and Mercedes-Benz, with many others joining at a later date. The software is made to provide drivers with touch- or voice-based access to phone calls, maps, music services and messages.
